Cookie Policy
- Effective Date:
- Last Updated:
This Cookie Policy explains how Taxably, Inc. ("Taxably", "we", "us") uses cookies and similar technologies on our websites and web application. It supplements our Privacy Policy and uses the same defined terms.
The policy covers every Taxably website: taxably.ai (marketing),
app.taxably.ai (the web application), forms.taxably.ai (forms and
applications), investors.taxably.ai (the investor portal) and
admin.taxably.ai (Taxably's own administration console). They share
one build, one consent banner and the same analytics tools. It does not
cover the Taxably Connect desktop agent, which runs on the firm's
workstation and does not use web cookies.
1. What are cookies?
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device.
Cookies let a site remember you across page loads and visits. "Similar
technologies" includes localStorage and sessionStorage, which serve
the same purpose with a different storage model. Throughout this
policy, "cookie" includes both.
2. Categories we use
We group every cookie we set or allow into three categories. The first is required for the site to work; the other two are optional and you can turn them on or off in the consent banner or on this page.
2.1 Strictly necessary
Required for authentication, session continuity, and the consent mechanism itself. You cannot disable these without breaking the site.
| Cookie / key | Purpose | Provider | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
__session and other Clerk cookies | Sign-in session, multi-factor authentication, organization context | Clerk | Session and up to 7 days (refresh tokens) |
sidebar_state | Remembers whether the in-app sidebar is collapsed or expanded | Taxably | 7 days |
taxably_consent | Stores your cookie preferences for every Taxably website (it is set on taxably.ai and its subdomains), so we do not re-prompt | Taxably | 13 months |
taxably.cookieConsent.v1 (localStorage) | The same preferences, kept by the website you are on | Taxably | Until you clear it |
__stripe_mid, __stripe_sid | Fraud prevention while you add a card. Set by Stripe's card form, and only on the app.taxably.ai pages that show it | Stripe | 1 year (__stripe_mid) and 30 minutes (__stripe_sid) |
2.2 Analytics
Off by default. Nothing in this category loads or runs until you accept analytics in the consent banner. Used to understand product usage in aggregate and to surface application errors so we can fix them.
| Cookie / key | Purpose | Provider | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics. Distinguishes visitors and sessions for aggregate usage measurement. The Google Analytics script is loaded only after you accept analytics; before that, no request is sent to Google Analytics at all. | Up to 2 years | |
ph_* keys (cookie and localStorage) | PostHog product analytics and session replay. Requests are sent through our own domain (first-party), not directly to PostHog. Session replays mask every input and all on-screen text. Initialized only after you accept analytics. | PostHog | Up to 1 year |
| Sentry session keys (localStorage) | Crash and error reporting. Stores a per-session identifier that is never linked to a real name. | Sentry | Session |
| None (Vercel Web Analytics) | Aggregate page-view measurement. Sets no cookie or storage key and carries no identifier that follows you between visits. Loaded only after you accept analytics. | Vercel | Not applicable |
We use Google Analytics, PostHog and Vercel Web Analytics for product analytics, all consent-gated as described in Section 3. We do not run any other third-party product analytics SDK (no Mixpanel, no Segment, no Heap, no Amplitude).
2.3 Marketing
Off by default. Reserved for a future third-party pixel; nothing in this category is set today. If we ever add one we will list it here before enabling it.
We do not use cross-site tracking, retargeting cookies, or social media "like" buttons that drop cookies.
3. How we obtain consent
When you first visit a Taxably website you see a banner asking whether
to accept all cookies, reject non-essential cookies, or customize. Your
choice is recorded in the taxably_consent cookie, which is set on
taxably.ai and its subdomains, and in
localStorage.taxably.cookieConsent.v1, and it is respected on every
subsequent page load. One choice applies on every Taxably website, so
answering on taxably.ai also answers for app.taxably.ai,
forms.taxably.ai and the others. If you change it on one website, the
most recent choice applies on all of them. We do not re-prompt unless
you clear the record, about a year has passed, or we make a material
change to the categories that requires fresh consent.
Until you make a choice we treat analytics and marketing as off.
4. How to change your choices
You can change your cookie preferences at any time by:
- Using the "Cookie preferences" link in the site footer or the button below, either of which reopens the consent banner, or
- Clearing cookies and site data for
taxably.aiin your browser settings, which will cause the banner to reappear on your next visit to a Taxably website, or - Using your browser's per-site cookie controls to block specific cookies (note: blocking strictly necessary cookies will break sign-in).
Opting out of analytics through the banner prevents Google Analytics and Vercel Web Analytics from loading, stops PostHog capture and session replay, and closes our error-reporting client for the rest of the session. None of the four initializes on later visits while analytics is declined.
5. Third parties
We rely on seven third parties whose cookies or storage keys might appear in your browser as a result of using our websites. Each is named on our Subprocessor List, which Privacy Policy Section 3.1 refers to.
- Clerk for authentication. Sets session cookies on the websites you sign in to.
- Google for Google Analytics. Sets
_gacookies only after you accept analytics; nothing loads before that. - PostHog for product analytics and session replay. Sets its keys only after you accept analytics. Requests travel through our own domain (first-party), and replays mask every input and all on-screen text.
- Sentry for error reporting. Sets local storage keys when you accept analytics.
- Vercel for hosting every Taxably website, and for aggregate page-view measurement after you accept analytics. The measurement sets no cookie and carries no identifier that follows you between visits. Hosting may set short-lived performance cookies for edge routing; no identifying data.
- Stripe for payments. The
app.taxably.aipages where you add a card load Stripe's card form, which sets__stripe_midand__stripe_sidto prevent fraud and receives your IP address and browser details. The card number goes to Stripe and never to Taxably. No other page loads it. - Calendly for the scheduler on the demonstration booking page
(
taxably.ai/demo). Once the scheduler loads, Calendly can set its own cookies and receives your IP address and what you enter into it (your name, email address and answers). Cookies the scheduler sets are Calendly's, under Calendly's own privacy notice. Booking a demonstration is optional; you can also ask for one atsupport@taxably.ai.
Our pages serve their typefaces from our own sites. Two places still
load typefaces from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and
fonts.gstatic.com): Stripe's card form on the app.taxably.ai pages
where you add a card, and the printable evaluation guide. That request
sends your IP address and browser details to Google and sets no cookie.
It is made before any consent choice, because those pages need their
fonts to display.
Apart from the Calendly scheduler described above, whose cookies are governed by Calendly's own notice, we do not allow any third party to set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies on our sites.
6. Do Not Track
Web browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal in some configurations. There is no industry-standard interpretation of that signal, so we do not rely on it. Use the consent banner on this site for an authoritative choice; we honor it precisely as recorded.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date above reflects the most recent revision. If we change the categories in a way that requires fresh consent (for example, adding a new third party in the analytics category), we will invalidate the existing consent record and re-prompt.
